Arsenal & Chelsea alerted to Bayern Munich star’s increasingly uncertain future

Leroy Sane has yet to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich, and several Premier League clubs are closely monitoring his situation.

Sane’s current deal is set to expire in June, and while Bayern have offered him a new contract, it reportedly comes with a reduced salary. Despite a challenging end to the 2023/24 season, the German international has bounced back strongly under new manager Vincent Kompany, playing a key role as Bayern reclaimed the Bundesliga title.

The 29-year-old has delivered a career-best performance this season, scoring 11 league goals and providing five assists. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, reaffirmed the club’s desire to keep Sane ahead of their recent win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

“Our wish is to continue with Leroy,” Eberl told Sky Sport Germany. “But we’ve also set a framework for ourselves financially. If that framework is broken — hypothetically — then it would become very difficult.”

Reports suggest Sane is unhappy with the reduced offer, believed to be in the region of €14 million to €15 million annually, and there’s a real possibility he could leave Bayern on a free transfer this summer.

Premier League clubs are on alert, with Arsenal and Chelsea said to be more appealing options for Sane compared to Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United. A return to England could be on the cards, considering Sane’s successful four-year stint at Manchester City prior to his 2020 move to Bayern following an ACL injury.

La Liga has also been mentioned as a potential destination, but Barcelona and Real Madrid are not currently in the market for wingers, and a move to Atletico Madrid appears unlikely.

Given the circumstances, a Premier League return seems the most realistic option if Sane does not renew his contract.

“It’s in Leroy’s hands now,” Eberl added. “We hope he decides to stay. If not, we’ll need to find another solution.” Bayern are hoping to have clarity on his future before their final match of the season against Hoffenheim.
