Luis Diaz has put an end to speculation regarding a summer departure from Liverpool by confirming that he is poised to begin contract extension negotiations with the club.
The Colombian winger is currently enjoying his most productive season in a Liverpool shirt, having reached double figures for Premier League goals for the first time since his arrival from Porto in early 2022.
Despite expressing his admiration for incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has reportedly focused on refining Diaz’s game since taking over, persistent rumors have linked the player with a move to Barcelona.
While Diaz has consistently voiced his affection for Liverpool, he has now publicly acknowledged the significant steps being taken to prolong his stay at Anfield.
“Yes, happy,” Diaz told Telemundo Deportes this week. “From the first day I arrived, I’ve always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team. We’ll be talking about it, we’ll talk about it [about the renewal]. For me, I would stay however many years it takes, it also depends on the club, everything. These are details that are sorted out separately. Very calm, I’m happy and enjoying the Premier League.”
The 28-year-old forward’s current contract runs until 2027. Liverpool have recently navigated periods of uncertainty surrounding the futures of key players, successfully securing contract extensions for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah after months of speculation. However, they are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, a move that has disappointed many Liverpool supporters.
Looking ahead, Slot’s team could face similar contract situations with three other players next season. Centre-back Ibrahima Konate, backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, and experienced defender Andy Robertson all have deals that are set to expire in 2026.
