Barcelona stand on the brink of being crowned La Liga champions, a reality that will materialize if Real Madrid fail to secure a victory against mid-table Mallorca on Wednesday night.

Real Madrid’s already slim hopes of retaining their league title suffered a significant blow over the weekend as they succumbed to their fourth defeat of the season against Barcelona. Despite Kylian Mbappe’s impressive hat-trick – making him the 14th Madrid player to achieve this feat in El Clasico – Carlo Ancelotti’s side couldn’t contain their high-scoring rivals and ultimately lost 4-3.

This result leaves Barcelona with a commanding seven-point lead with only three matches remaining. For Real Madrid to snatch the title, they must win all their remaining games and hope for an unprecedented collapse from Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

Their immediate challenge is a tricky encounter against Mallorca, a team they defeated 3-0 in the Supercopa semifinals earlier in the year, although the reverse league fixture ended in a 1-1 draw at the start of the season. Mallorca have a poor record at the Bernabeu, with their last victory there dating back to May 2009. A rare win in the capital would significantly boost their aspirations for European qualification.

Mallorca are currently level on points with eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano with three games left, setting up a potentially decisive final-day clash between the two sides to determine who will secure a spot in next season’s Conference League.

Real Madrid’s defensive struggles in Catalonia can be attributed to a significant number of absentees, and Ancelotti is unlikely to see any of his injured players return for the midweek fixture. Adding to their woes, Aurelien Tchouameni is suspended for Mallorca’s visit.

The home side is currently without key defenders Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, and midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, all of whom are expected to remain sidelined for the rest of the season. Ancelotti’s successor will be hoping to have some of these players available for the start of the Club World Cup in June.

Forward Rodrygo might be fit enough to feature as a substitute on Wednesday, but he is still recovering from the illness that kept him out of the 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo. The Brazilian was an unused substitute in the El Clasico defeat.

Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Junior are also expected to miss the Mallorca game due to knocks sustained in Sunday’s loss.

Real Madrid Predicted Lineup vs. Mallorca (4-4-2): Courtois; Vázquez, Asencio, Ramon, García; Guler, Modric, Ceballos, Bellingham; Mbappé; Endrick.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Mallorca
