Reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, potentially concluding a prominent summer transfer saga.
Huijsen, who enjoyed a successful breakout season in the Premier League after joining from Juventus last summer and earned his senior Spain debut in March, has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, all seeking defensive reinforcements. However, Real Madrid have reportedly been confident in their pursuit.
The 20-year-old defender has a £50m (€59m) release clause at Bournemouth, payable in three installments, making him an accessible target for numerous clubs. Ultimately, Huijsen’s decision was the crucial factor.
Spanish publication MARCA leads with the headline “Everything Agreed,” claiming that documentation is being exchanged between Real Madrid and Bournemouth, with only an “official signing” remaining. The report further states that Huijsen has turned down seven other “concrete offers.”
Should Real Madrid finalize the deal swiftly, Huijsen could be registered during FIFA’s special mini-transfer window at the beginning of June, making him eligible to play from the start of the Club World Cup.
While Real Madrid have a history of prematurely briefing the Spanish media on transfer progress, adding weight to MARCA’s claims is a separate report from the Telegraph, which echoes a similar narrative that the race for Huijsen has been “won.”
A key factor in Madrid’s success is reportedly a “breakthrough” in negotiations regarding the 20-year-old’s salary demands, proving decisive in overcoming competition, particularly from Chelsea.
Defensive issues have plagued Real Madrid this season, with long-term injuries to Eder Militao, ongoing struggles for David Alaba, and Antonio Rudiger playing through pain before recently undergoing surgery. Right-back Dani Carvajal has also missed a significant portion of the campaign, and there have been doubts surrounding Ferland Mendy on the left.
However, Real Madrid’s backline could soon undergo a significant transformation with the anticipated arrival of Huijsen, alongside the expected signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England full-back is out of contract with Liverpool on June 30th, but negotiations for a nominal transfer fee of around €1m could allow him to join Real Madrid three weeks earlier and, like Huijsen, be registered during the mini-window.
