Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that 20-year-old Spanish defender Dean Huijsen is undergoing medical tests ahead of signing a long-term contract with Real Madrid, valid until 2030.

Huijsen, who gained attention for his standout performances at Bournemouth and earned a call-up to the Spanish national team, will become Real Madrid’s first signing of the summer. The transfer fee is reported to be around €60 million (£50 million).

He is undergoing medical tests NOW. Xabi Alonso wanted to bring him,” Romano revealed on social media.

The young centre-back, also targeted by top Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool, is considered one of Europe’s top defensive prospects. His move comes after a strong campaign and interest from several elite sides.

Born on April 14, 2005, in Amsterdam, Huijsen moved to Marbella, Spain, during childhood. He began his football career with Málaga before joining Juventus, later having a loan spell at AS Roma, and eventually signing with Bournemouth.

He made his debut for the Spanish national team in March 2025 during the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against the Netherlands.

Real Madrid sees Huijsen as a key part of their defensive future, with club president Florentino Pérez and incoming manager Xabi Alonso playing pivotal roles in sealing the deal.
