Liverpool have reportedly finalized an agreement to sign Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold’s widely anticipated departure leaving a void at right-back, the Premier League champions acted swiftly to secure a replacement. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Frimpong have reached a full agreement on personal terms, with the Dutch defender set to sign a five-year contract at Anfield.
The final hurdle was cleared as Liverpool informed Bayer Leverkusen of their intention to trigger Frimpong’s €35 million (£29.4 million, $39.1 million) release clause. This step has now been completed, paving the way for the transfer.
A medical examination is now being scheduled for Frimpong, and should everything proceed as expected, his final appearance for Bayer Leverkusen was Saturday’s match.
Earlier in the day, Liverpool reinforced their options at right-back by securing academy graduate Conor Bradley’s future with a new long-term contract. While manager Arne Slot has publicly expressed his confidence in Bradley to help fill the void left by Alexander-Arnold, the arrival of Frimpong will provide significant additional competition and quality in that area.
With the acquisition of a new right-back seemingly wrapped up, Liverpool are now expected to shift their focus to strengthening other areas of the squad. Reports suggest that a new striker is a priority for Arne Slot, who is also keen to bring in a new centre-back during the summer transfer window. Sources and related content
