Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim faced the media after his side’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, expressing profound disappointment but remaining resolute about his future at the club.

“I’m not going to talk about the future, we need to deal with the loss and the pain,” Amorim stated, reflecting on the immediate aftermath of the final. Despite the defeat, he maintained his belief in his team’s performance, adding, “We were the better team but we couldn’t score.”

Addressing questions about his position, Amorim adopted a defiant stance. “In this moment, I am not here to defend myself. It’s not my style. I have nothing to show to the fans. In this moment [I need] a little bit of faith.”

The Portuguese tactician also provided insight into the club’s transfer strategy following their failure to secure Champions League qualification. “We have two plans for the market. We need to understand it’s tough not to be in the Champions League, but we have to use the other side. We have more time to work in the week and be better in the Premier League. That will be our focus.”

In a powerful declaration of commitment, Amorim asserted, “If the board and the fans feel I am not the right guy, I will go tomorrow with no compensation. But I will not quit.” This statement underscores his determination to lead Manchester United through their current challenges.

Echoing the manager’s sentiments of disappointment and the need for change, defender Luke Shaw offered a candid assessment of the season. “We’re all gutted, it’s not how we saw the outcome to be honest. But it’s not just tonight, this whole season, it’s been nowhere near good enough. I think all of us have to question ourselves on if we’re good enough to be here.”

Despite the difficult season, Shaw expressed unwavering support for his manager. “A lot has to change, it’s clear to see. That’s why I say Ruben is 100 per cent the right person. He knows what is to be done at this club, I believe he will do everything to make that change and put Manchester back at the top.”

Amorim’s post-match comments paint a picture of a manager determined to learn from the setbacks and drive significant improvements at Manchester United, focusing on a cultural shift and a strategic approach to the transfer market to restore the club’s standing.
