Despite widespread interest from Premier League clubs, reports indicate that Rodrygo intends to remain at Real Madrid.
Rodrygo experienced an uncharacteristically poor end to his 2024–25 season, which cast a shadow over his future at Real Madrid. Attractive offers from Chelsea and Arsenal appeared to be on the horizon for the winger, but AS reports that Rodrygo has decided to maintain his position at the world’s biggest club.
With Xabi Alonso expected to take over from Carlo Ancelotti in the coming weeks, Rodrygo is reportedly very keen to meet his new coach “and learn the role” the Spaniard intends for him in his new system. Rodrygo has delivered impressive campaigns on the right wing for Los Blancos in the past, but he has struggled to make an impact since the arrival of Kylian Mbappé.
The report adds that Rodrygo “is not giving up” and wants to “gain the confidence of [Alonso]” before considering a departure from the Spanish capital. The Brazilian may get an almost immediate opportunity to showcase his talent to Alonso in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which is expected to kick off on June 14.
According to statistics from the 2024-25 season, Rodrygo played 30 games in La Liga, scoring 10 goals and assisting 5 goals. He scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions in 2023-24. Indeed, the 24-year-old found the net only once in his last 22 appearances for Los Blancos before his season was cut short due to injury.
However, the winger has a history of producing in big moments for Real Madrid, perhaps none greater than his performance against Manchester City in the 2024 Champions League quarter-finals. Rodrygo scored in both legs of the tie, significantly helping to push Real Madrid past the English side on their way to securing their 15th Champions League title.
Nonetheless, Rodrygo is likely to remain under scrutiny in the near future until a definitive decision is made regarding his long-term future at the Santiago Bernabéu.
