New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has endorsed Bryan Mbeumo’s £71 million move to Manchester United but admitted he is uncertain about the future of his own captain, Son Heung-min.
After weeks of negotiations, United have finally agreed a deal with Brentford for Mbeumo, structured as £65m upfront with a further £6m in add-ons. Frank, who managed the forward at Brentford, said Mbeumo “deserves” the move. “I have been with him for five years. I wish him all the best,” he stated.
However, when questioned about the future of Spurs captain Son Heung-min, Frank was far less certain. “It’s always tricky, situations like that,” he said. “Right now I have a player that is fully committed and training well… But if a player has been at a club a long time, then there will always be a decision for the club to take.”
Frank’s comments highlight the contrasting situations he faces: giving his blessing to a former player’s move to a rival, while simultaneously facing uncertainty over the future of one of his new squad’s most important players.
