Speaking from Manchester United’s pre-season tour in Chicago, new manager Ruben Amorim has given a wide-ranging interview, discussing the club’s exiled players, his satisfaction with new signings, and the spirit within the squad.
Amorim issued a stark warning regarding the group of wantaway players, including Alejandro Garnacho. He acknowledged that interested clubs might wait for a last-minute deal but cautioned, “they can have a surprise.” He also put pressure directly on the players to resolve their futures, stating, “If you want to play in the World Cup next year you need to play.”
In contrast, the manager expressed his delight with new arrivals like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. “Really pleased, it’s really important to sign new players as soon as possible,” he said, emphasizing that their prior Premier League experience “is really important.” Amorim also praised their commitment, noting, “the best thing is they chose to be here, they had Champions League options.”
New striker Matheus Cunha echoed this positivity, saying, “When we arrive we were very welcomed and it helps you a lot. I feel completely fine with the tactics.”
Amorim also singled out young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, calling him a “big talent” but adding that he “needs to increase the rhythm, the pace.”
Finally, the manager acknowledged the rebuilding task ahead, admitting, “We are going to suffer.” However, he stressed that the “spirit is positive” and that the feeling of bonding within the new group is “really important” for the challenging season to come.
