A new twist has emerged in the Jadon Sancho transfer saga, with the wantaway Manchester United winger reportedly prepared to accept a huge drop in wages to seal a dream return to his former club, Borussia Dortmund.
This development comes after a proposed move to Serie A side Juventus was put “on hold” due to the Italian club prioritising other business. With that deal stalled, the door has now opened for Dortmund to potentially pursue a reunion with the player who became a superstar in their colours.
According to German outlet BILD, Sancho’s desire to return to Dortmund is so strong that he is willing to make a “huge sacrifice.” He is reportedly prepared to slash his net salary in half, from his current €16 million per year at United down to €8 million, to make the move financially viable for the Bundesliga club.
The motivation behind this is clear. Sancho produced the best form of his career at Signal Iduna Park, both during his first spell from 2017 to 2021 and during a successful six-month loan in early 2024. After two stuttering seasons in England with both United and Chelsea, he is thought to be keen to return to an environment which can provide him with the confidence to flourish.
While Sancho has reportedly communicated his desire to Dortmund officials, it remains to be seen if the German club will make a formal move. Their Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl, has previously played down the likelihood of such a deal.
With the Juventus move now stalled, Jadon Sancho has made his preference clear. His future now depends on whether Borussia Dortmund will respond to his plea and enter the race to bring their former star back home.
