Chelsea are continuing their significant summer squad overhaul, with reports revealing that a full agreement has been reached to sell academy graduate striker Armando Broja to Premier League newcomers, Burnley.
According to reporter Fabrice Hawkins, the deal between the two clubs has been struck, and the 23-year-old Albanian international is already linking up with the Clarets to undergo his medical ahead of an official announcement.
While the exact price of the transfer has not been revealed, BBC Sport suggests the deal could be worth as much as £20 million. For Chelsea, this fee will count as “pure profit” in their financial accounts, as Broja is a product of their famed Cobham academy.
This permanent move offers Broja a much-needed fresh start after a difficult few years. Following promising loan spells at Vitesse and Southampton, his career progression was severely halted by a serious ACL injury. Subsequent unsuccessful loan spells at Fulham and Everton have only reinforced the need for a new permanent home to rebuild his form.
Broja’s departure is part of a major reconstruction of Chelsea’s forward line this summer. The club has already parted ways with João Félix and Noni Madueke, while they continue to look for buyers for both Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling.
The transfer appears to be a beneficial move for all parties involved. Burnley get a striker with Premier League quality for their return to the top flight, Broja gets the stability he needs to reboot his career, and Chelsea generate significant, pure profit to reinvest in the market.
