The race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško has taken a decisive and significant turn. According to a report from The Athletic, Newcastle United have formalized their interest by submitting an official offer for the player within the last 24 hours.

The bid is a substantial one, reportedly worth a total package of €80 million. It is structured as a €75 million guaranteed fee plus a further €5 million in performance-related add-ons. This offer is said to be in line with the asking price that RB Leipzig had previously communicated to interested clubs.

Despite this strong opening move from Newcastle, the race for the striker is not yet over. Manchester United’s pursuit of the 22-year-old is described as “ongoing,” meaning they remain a firm contender for his signature.

Crucially, the report clarifies that the player himself has “no decision yet” regarding his future club. Both Premier League giants will now be working hard to convince the Slovenian international that their project is the right fit for the next stage of his career.

Newcastle’s formal bid is the strongest indication yet that they are actively preparing for the potential departure of their wantaway star striker, Alexander Isak. Securing a top-class replacement like Šeško is seen as a necessary step before they would consider sanctioning Isak’s potential big-money move to Liverpool.

With Newcastle having made the first concrete move, the pressure is now on. However, with Manchester United still in the race and the player’s final decision pending, this transfer saga is far from over.
