The ten elite goalkeepers who will battle it out to be crowned the winner of the 2025 Yashin Trophy have been officially announced ahead of the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony. The prestigious award, named after legendary Soviet Union star Lev Yashin, celebrates the best goalkeeper in world football over the past season.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, who is the current holder of the award after winning in both 2023 and 2024, is once again among the nominees and will be looking to secure an incredible third consecutive title.
However, a strong favourite to take his crown this year is Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian shot-stopper was a hero in his side’s historic run to Champions League glory, making a number of key saves throughout the campaign.
The Premier League is heavily represented with four nominees in total. Alongside Martínez, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker makes the cut, as do the joint winners of last season’s Golden Glove award, David Raya of Arsenal and Matz Sels of Nottingham Forest.
Two of La Liga’s most iconic goalkeepers also feature on the star-studded list. Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois returns to the shortlist after recovering from the injury that saw him miss out 12 months ago, while Atlético Madrid’s long-serving captain, Jan Oblak, is also nominated.
The list is completed by Al Hilal’s Yassine Bounou, who dazzled at the Club World Cup; Inter’s reliable number one, Yann Sommer; and Lille’s impressive youngster Lucas Chevalier, who has been tipped as a potential replacement for Donnarumma at PSG.
The competition for the 2025 Yashin Trophy is incredibly fierce, featuring a mix of established legends and rising stars. While Emi Martínez will be tough to dethrone, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Champions League heroics may give him the decisive edge in the vote.
