Manchester United have officially opened their newly renovated, state-of-the-art men’s first-team building at Carrington, a £50 million project designed to bring the club’s facilities back to a world-class standard and signal a new era of high performance.

The grand unveiling comes almost three years after club legend Cristiano Ronaldo famously slammed the club’s outdated infrastructure in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in 2022. At the time, Ronaldo claimed the facilities had “stopped in time” and that “progress is zero,” urging the club to “tear it down and rebuild it.”

The club, under its new leadership, has now done just that. The redevelopment, which is the first major upgrade to the men’s building since the training ground first opened in 2000, was funded with help from the $300 million capital injection from new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group.

Speaking on the project, Sir Jim Ratcliffe said, “We made a quick decision to invest significantly in the creation of a world-class performance environment for staff and players to reflect our ambition and vision for Manchester United. We are confident the new facility will play an important role in building a winning culture at the club.”

The club’s CEO, Omar Berrada, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the project’s role in creating a new, unified culture. “This project represents a clear step towards unifying every part of the club around a shared footballing vision,” Berrada stated. “We are creating a culture of collaboration and high-performance.”

The opening of the new Carrington building is more than just an infrastructure upgrade; it is a powerful symbol of the new era at Manchester United. It represents a direct response to past criticisms and a tangible investment in the high standards that the new ownership is determined to restore at Old Trafford.
