The future of superstar goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has reached an explosive and bitter conclusion, with his relationship with Paris Saint-Germain now reportedly “completely broken.” In a stunning turn of events, however, both Manchester United and Chelsea have now officially ruled themselves out of the running to sign the wantaway Italian star.
The crisis was ignited by manager Luis Enrique, who publicly confirmed he was the one who personally dropped Donnarumma from the squad. “It’s my own decision. I am 100% responsible,” the coach said, adding bluntly, “I want a different kind of goalkeeper.”
Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, responded furiously to the decision. “We are shocked by PSG. There’s zero respect by the club after 4 years together,” he told Sky, accusing the club of being motivated “only about the money” and revealing that they are now considering their options with a legal team.
The player himself then released an emotional farewell statement to the fans on social media. “Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success,” he wrote. “I am disappointed and disheartened… Thank you, Paris.”
Just as a blockbuster move to the Premier League seemed inevitable, the race for his signature dramatically collapsed. In a major U-turn from previous reports, Manchester United have now confirmed they have “no interest” in signing him and are “currently not looking to sign a goalkeeper.” Similarly, Chelsea have reiterated that he is “not a target.”
This leaves Manchester City as the only remaining serious Premier League suitor. Fabrizio Romano confirms that Pep Guardiola remains a big admirer and the club has made contact with PSG. However, any potential deal is complicated: it is dependent on the future of their current number one, Ederson, and PSG’s €50 million asking price is currently deemed too high by City.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is now certain to leave PSG after a very public and bitter feud. But with both Manchester United and Chelsea now surprisingly out of the running, his options have dramatically narrowed. His future now appears to depend on the complex domino effect of Ederson’s potential departure from Manchester City.
