Barcelona are reportedly preparing for a significant squad overhaul this summer due to their ongoing financial difficulties, with a list of nine players potentially facing the exit door.
Despite a successful season that saw them on the verge of securing the La Liga title after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid, and having already won two domestic trophies, the Catalan club’s precarious financial situation necessitates a significant reduction in their wage bill to comply with La Liga’s strict financial regulations for the upcoming season.
According to reports, this cost-cutting measure is expected to involve a mass clear-out of players. While certain key figures like Lamine Yamal are considered untouchable and the likes of Pedri and Raphinha are unlikely to depart, other prominent names are on the potential departure list.
Notably, instrumental midfielder Frenkie de Jong could be sold if he does not agree to a new contract this summer. Despite receiving high praise from Inter manager Simone Inzaghi after his performance in the Champions League final and being highly regarded by current manager Hansi Flick, his potential availability is linked to his contract situation.
Another surprising name on the list is fan favourite Gavi. Despite the 20-year-old’s ongoing recovery from an ACL injury and his public commitment to Barcelona, the club may be compelled to sell him if a sufficiently attractive financial offer is received.
Several academy graduates are also reportedly on the list of potential departures, including Fermin Lopez, Pablo Torre, Hector Fort, and Inaki Pena.
The future of defender Ronald Araujo also remains uncertain. Following reports of a “mental block,” the Uruguayan centre-back is expected to discuss a possible summer move, with Manchester United mentioned as a potential destination.
Furthermore, Pau Victor, who arrived just a year ago, could be offloaded, along with Ansu Fati. It has been suggested that Barcelona’s pursuit of Marcus Rashford is contingent on finding a buyer for Fati, potentially accelerating his exit
