Real Madrid have officially confirmed the acquisition of Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen. The highly-rated defender will join the Spanish giants in time to participate in this summer’s Club World Cup.

Huijsen’s impressive performances for Bournemouth following his move from Juventus last summer had attracted considerable attention from top European clubs. Despite a £50 million (€59.5 million, $66.4 million) release clause, Real Madrid moved swiftly to secure his signature, agreeing personal terms and triggering the clause. Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool were among the clubs who missed out on the 20-year-old.

In an official statement, Bournemouth confirmed the transfer, stating, “AFC Bournemouth can confirm that defender Dean Huijsen will join Real Madrid following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, with the Spanish side having activated a £50 million release clause.”

Real Madrid also confirmed the move, announcing that Huijsen will officially join the club on June 1, 2025. This timing ensures his eligibility to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup. The Dutch international has signed a five-year contract, committing his future to the Santiago Bernabéu until 2030.

Huijsen becomes Real Madrid’s first signing of the summer and a key addition to a squad that is widely expected to be under the new management of Xabi Alonso, whose appointment is anticipated to be formally announced soon.

Real Madrid are also reportedly working on securing the signing of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold before the Club World Cup. While the England international has reportedly agreed to a free transfer, negotiations with Liverpool are ongoing to potentially finalize an early move.   Sources and related content
