According to a report, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner might leave Al Nassr to play for a club participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
With his future at Al Nassr uncertain, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been given an opportunity to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Ronaldo, whose contract with Al Nassr expires on June 30, has yet to sign a new deal with the Saudi Pro League club. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner may seek to play elsewhere as early as this summer, and a report by MARCA states that Moroccan club Wydad are interested in signing the legendary forward.
The Spanish newspaper revealed that Wydad “hope to acquire the Portuguese player [for FIFA Club World Cup 2025]” not only to increase their chances of going far in the tournament, but also for the “social motivation” and exposure that Ronaldo brings.
No formal move has been made by either side, but Ronaldo only has three more weeks to decide if he is willing to move, permanently or on loan, to Wydad or another club participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 before the tournament kicks off on July 14.
Wydad qualified for the significantly expanded tournament by winning the CAF Champions League 2021–22. The Moroccan club was then drawn into Group G, alongside Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain.
As long as Ronaldo remains without signing a new contract, offers will continue to pour in from other clubs around the world hoping to capitalize on his goal-scoring prowess. The 40-year-old has found the net 34 times in 40 appearances for Al Nassr this season and is on track to score his 1,000th career goal.
With Lionel Messi and Inter Miami expected to participate in this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, it could be a perfect opportunity for Ronaldo to potentially compete against his former rival after a decade of battles in La Liga.
