The latest reports from Spain have shed new light on Barcelona’s summer transfer strategy, revealing a list of players who could be sold to raise funds, alongside a firm decision to keep a key defender at the club.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, three key players could be allowed to leave Camp Nou if suitable offers arrive this summer. The names on the potential sales list are midfielders Fermín López and Marc Casadó, as well as Danish international defender Andreas Christensen.
The inclusion of Fermín López on this list is particularly significant. It comes just as reports emerged of Manchester United’s willingness to pay up to €70 million for the young midfielder. Barcelona’s apparent openness to a sale now makes that potential blockbuster deal seem far more plausible.
In what appears to be a significant U-turn from earlier reports, however, the club has now decided they do not want to sell Ronald Araújo. While it was previously thought that Barcelona were struggling to find a buyer for him, sources close to the club now insist that he is considered a “valuable defender” and is firmly not on the market.
Barcelona’s willingness to part with players like Christensen and Casadó, and to consider a huge offer for a rising star like Fermín, highlights their ongoing and urgent need to balance the books. The club must generate significant income from sales to be able to register their new signings for the upcoming La Liga season.
The club’s transfer plan is becoming clearer. While they are determined to hold on to a core defensive asset like Ronald Araújo, they are very much open to negotiating the departures of several others to solve their financial issues. The potential sale of Fermín López could be the key that unlocks the rest of their summer business.
