Liverpool’s summer of player sales is set to continue as the club looks to balance the books following a massive spending spree. Midfielder Tyler Morton is reportedly close to a permanent exit, while striker Darwin Núñez is in talks over a potential high-profile move away from Anfield.
Firstly, academy graduate Tyler Morton is on the verge of joining French club Lyon. The deal is reported to be a total package worth £15 million, inclusive of add-ons. The 22-year-old, who is seeking more first-team exposure, is now said to be awaiting the “green light from the club before travelling to France to undergo a medical.”
In a more significant potential move, Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez has held direct talks with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi club has presented its project to the player.
Liverpool are understood to be prepared to part ways with the 26-year-old after he struggled to hold down a regular starting role under manager Arne Slot. While the club rejected a bumper bid of around £70 million in January, their asking price is expected to be considerably lower this summer.
The success of any potential transfer now hinges entirely on the player himself. Núñez’s interest in a move to the Saudi Pro League is currently unknown, and he will have the final say on where his future lies.
These sales are a crucial part of Liverpool’s financial strategy. After spending close to £300 million on new signings like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitiké, and having already sold Luis Díaz, the funds generated from the departures of Morton and potentially Núñez are needed to recoup their significant outlay.
