Liverpool’s talismanic forward, Mohamed Salah, has written his name into the Premier League history books yet again, becoming the first player ever to score 10 goals in opening day fixtures of a season.

The record-breaking goal came deep into stoppage time during Liverpool’s dramatic 4-2 victory over Bournemouth on Friday night. After a relatively quiet game by his high standards, Salah sealed the win with a classic solo run and finish, marking his 187th career Premier League goal and moving him level with Andy Cole for fourth on the all-time scoring chart.

His 10th opening day goal moves him clear at the top of an illustrious list of Premier League legends, cementing his reputation as a player who always starts the season in blistering form.

The goal also saw the Egyptian king reach another significant milestone, as he tied Sergio Agüero for the second-most Premier League goals scored at a single venue (Anfield). He now only trails Thierry Henry’s incredible record of 114 goals at Arsenal’s former ground, Highbury.

The record was a fitting end to an emotionally-charged and chaotic evening at Anfield. The match, which included tributes to the late Diogo Jota, was a thrilling contest. After the final whistle, an emotional Salah was seen in tears applauding the fans in the Kop.

While Liverpool’s overall performance showed there is still work to do in their title defence, Mohamed Salah’s outrageous consistency and record-breaking habits continue to be the one constant for the club.
